Program

Set up of the Conference

The conference has a mix of plenary and parallel sessions. We reserve sufficient time for discussion and interaction to stimulate a lively conference and opportunity for synthesis. The scientific committee will allow sufficient time per presentation, rather than many, very short presentations. As a consequence we encourage contributors to co-author papers and to regard participation in discussion and synthesis as a stimulus to attend the conference. There will also be poster presentations and (software) demos – these will be integrated in sessions and discussions with brief introductions.

We encourage participation of young scientists to offer papers or posters, through a reduced fee for PhD or MSc students. A reduced fee will also apply for scientists from developing countries. We may organize summer schools related to the conference. Please check our website.

Poster award

A poster award will be given to six posters with a high score for their quality. Criteria for quality are:

-          Quality of the research (innovative, cross-disciplinary and contribution to the topic of the conference on Integrated Assessment of Agriculture and Sustainable Development).

-          Clarity of the poster (scientific problem defined, research steps presented and conclusions highlighted).

-          Presentation of the poster (attractive and clarity of the title, good lay-out, key figure(s) presented, conclusions highlighted).

Scores are given for each criterion by the Poster Award Committee (PAC). The six posters with highest scores are nominated for the AgSAP Poster Award. The Poster Award Ceremony will be held at the start of the the Forum Session on Thursday afternoon. Two persons will receive the bronze award, two persons the silver award and two persons the gold award. In addition to the Award, a small present will be given.

Members of the Poster Award Committee are: Haluk Kasnakoglu (chair), Johanna Alkan Olsson, Robert Argent and Joost Wolf.

Parallel sessions during the Conference

Block A - Methodology for integrated assessment

Alternative methods for integrated assessment of agricultural systems and contributions to rural development are presented. Methods for up- and downscaling are discussed.

Session A-1 Methods for integrated assessment of agricultural systems and land use

Session A-2 Methods for up- and downscaling in integrated assessments

Session A-4 The organization of tools for integrated assessment - standards or diversity?

Block B - State-of-the-art of components of integrated systems

Progress in modelling tools and their use for supporting policy assessment on agriculture, rural development and sustainable development. Focus in these sessions is on components rather than on entire systems: assessment capability at field, farm, regional, continental or market level; indicators, databases and software engineering.

Block C - Case studies and application of tools and empirical methods

Empirical applications, using modelling tools, to specific cases, policy areas and public concerns

Session C-1 Integrated assessment of biomass for biofuel or renewables – trade-offs with feed and food

Session C-2 Modelling adaptation and mitigation strategies to cope with climate change

Session C-3 Application of integrated Impact assessment tools

Block D - Integrated assessment science and impact

Explore the broader societal use and impact of integrated assessment tools, including the contribution of science-policy interaction.

Session D-1 Stakeholder involvement in designing, use and evaluation of integrated assessment model

Session D-2 Role of integrated assessment for policy
