Session B-2

Title:                            Indicators for integrated impact assessment

Session organisers  Maria Luisa Paracchini (JRC, Ispra, Italy), Nadine Turpin (CEMAGREF, France)

Keynote speaker:       Claudia Binder (University of Zurich, Switserland)

Scope of the session: The integrated impact assessment of EU agriculture requires impact indicators that represent the relevant environmental, economic and social issues related to the problem assessed. Impact indicators connect assessment with policy so that information moves beyond science and becomes legitimate to decision-making processes. This session will focus on tools to for providing coherent sets of strategic impact indicators – i.e. indicators linked to the objectives of the policy-makers and to the action domain of the other stakeholders, on the analysis of possible ways to address the interlinkages between social, economic and environmental aspects of assessment (spatial issues, aggregated impact indicators, multi-criteria decision analysis,  …) and on biases in using such ways for integrated impact assessment along with solutions to reduce these biases. The session will conclude with presentations and discussions of the role that indicators have in integrated impact assessment.
